5 Steps to Perfect Oral Health

How do you care about your dog's teeth & gum health naturally and without putting him or her under anesthesia? Find out about natural oral care.

Let me start this article in a different way - let me tell you about some situations that REALLY pissed me off. So, I am going to present some scenarios and then we move to the main solution of this article.

​Sounds good? Let's start.

1. Here in Houston, TX is a local cocker spaniel rescue. One day I was going through their posts on FB and to my horror, I read how they just rescued an 18-yr old cocker spaniel. Well, that's great...but the horror part...
So, then the post went on to say how they have scheduled this dog's teeth to be cleaned and he will be at the vet's going under anesthesia. This made my blood jump to burning levels!! I was like thinking are they mad? these humans? fools?

Oh yes! the American brainwashing - the culture where people don't see reality anymore but are just doing what others are doing. Hence, the American state of health...for both humans and dogs. 

Reality - 18 yr old dog, breathing fine, looks good, eating well, peeing and pooping well...all pretty good. Sleeps well. No emergency situation. (I know - I read the whole post plus I have talked to these people on and off - so this is factual). The dog had tartar/plaque and was a living breathing dog, 18-yr old one.

Illusion or societal control - When the dog is doing perfectly fine in all of life's necessary functions, then WHY put the dog under anesthesia and bombard his body with this toxic substance - so toxic, that one even has to sign papers that the dog may not even wake-up! Wouldn't it be better if these fools looked for easier, cheaper, holistic solutions that actually will benefit the dog rather than kill him? I used this example to show you how controlled is the American mind-set - it is to a point that no one questions and no one sees the reality. Waking up is not that hard, you know?! 

The Search For Better Options -

My first 2 adopted dogs (both directly from shelter) came when I was still in college and very young. As a new dog owner, I had taken both to do dental cleaning once ONLY - that was enough though to wake me up. Thank God!! But the tragedy was that soon after the dental cleaning (approx. 1.5 months later), my dearest first dog passed away.

The question is not whether the toxic anesthesia is to blame or the vaccines but rather the question is would my dog have suffered and passed away had I not allowed these toxic substances to go in her body and circulate? 

Because do remember very well next time you think of "professional" dental cleaning for your dog that just because your dog woke up and life went on great does NOT mean the chemicals from the anesthesia (and the pain meds, antibiotics given later on) are flushed out off of your dog's body.

No - unless you are an active, holistic dog owner who cooks fresh food at home and KNOWS how to flush such toxic waste out, you are inviting future health issues for your dog - from cardiac issues like enlarged heart, disruptive heart rate, seizures, to skin issues like rashes/itching, and many more like fainting, liver and kidney problems, etc.

Even after giving detox support to your dog, it does not mean the body will get rid of all the chemicals that are now present in heavy load. Along with everyday chemicals like kibble, environmental pollution, toxic water, flea/tick/shampoo products, heartworm pills, your dog is already over-loaded with chemicals - toxic ones!! 

So, after this tragedy, I searched and searched to see what I can do to keep my dog's teeth clean. The answer came after a while and there it was! I never went back for another dental cleaning. I want to note that my dogs always had clean teeth and NO BAD BREATH - true. But this is after they become my dogs - after they had been with me for sometime.

For my newly adopted dogs, I do NOT follow the toxic route even though all of them came with horrible teeth. So, I just do the 5 steps and that takes care of it. NOT a single dog of mine (except the first 2) have ever gone for dental cleaning nor will they ever!! Thank God!!

What else helps? - 

Plus, soft, home-cooked food made with brown rice and coconut oil helps a lot too - NONE of my dogs have any odor or bad breath. Add to it some raw as well as cooked veggies and you are all set for one odor-free dog.

This is a compliment I am proud of because it means my commitment to their health and my hard work is paying off. Whenever we have guests over, people always compliment (and wonder) how come my dogs have - 1. no doggy odor and 2. no bad teeth or bad breath! 

The secret is in what you feed and secondly, in doing the following 5 steps which I will now pass onto you.

5 Steps:-

1. Buy the tartar removal tool - Buy this tool from the same area where you get your toothpaste/toothbrush. DON'T need some special 'dog' tool - nope, in fact, human tartar tool is much stringer and better as it always carries more liability (company's responsibility). It is also cheaper as it is a common product and not just 'for-dog'. For your convenience, I have attached the photo of the item you need to get. You only need 1 - do not waste your money getting a whole set or so. Also, while at the store, pick up SOFT baby toothbrush. Yes, save your time, a trip to pet store and money! Your dog does not need any special 'dog-toothbrush' - just any soft, kids one will do. 

2. Start scrapping your dog's teeth - Sit down when you and your dog are done with the day or you can even sit out in the sun and do it while enjoying some great sunlight! Slowly start scrapping the tartar off going towards the gums but not touching the gums. You will learn this as time goes by and will get better the more you do. Keep scrapping and the tartar will start coming off - even one that is stubborn will come off eventually. Be patient. Do as many teeth as you can but important thing is that you and your dog start this regimen right away. 

3. Brush with organic, coconut oil - Lot of people add baking soda and herbs like parsley, oregano, mint or essential oils like clove, peppermint, oregano but in the beginning, I really recommend to keep things simple and basic. After you are done with scrapping, take a bit of coconut oil as well as some hemp oil and very lightly brush your dogs teeth with it or you can apply it simply via your finger. Both oils are anti-bacterial and soothing but hemp oil especially will make sure your dog does not have any inflammation in the gums/mouth whereas coconut oil acts as an excellent lubricant. 

​4. Repeat the procedure till completely clean - Repeat steps #1 - #3 till your dog's mouth is completely clean. If starting first time, this might be spread over few days or so. If your dog is mild, has little bit of plaque and tartar and you have a good command on your dog, then this can be done in one "sitting".

5. Brush 2-3 times a week with coconut oil - The truth is you DON'T need to brush your dog's teeth every single day! In fact, that might end up irritating the gums. Just 2 times or 3 is enough. You can now add pinch of organic sea salt or baking soda. You can also mix and match - use organic, cold pressed hemp oil and massage with your finger on your dog's gums and teeth. I also add a drop's worth of clove oil in like 1 ounce of coconut oil. Both the hemp oil and clove oil will help inhibit any inflammation, bacteria and pain in the gums/mouth.

What's the deal with enzymatic toothpastes? 

You can add few drops of hydrogen peroxide. This is why the pet industry is pushing for you to buy enzymatic toothpastes for your dog. All that enzymatic toothpastes do is that they lessen or try to remove tartar and bacteria from the mouth.

But if you can remove the tartar without these man-made chemicals and if you can take charge of bacteria by using oils, then why would you need these enzymatic toothpaste? Makes sense now? On top of that, they convert into hydrogen peroxide in the mouth - wouldn't it be better to just use pure hydrogen peroxide instead of all the artificial chemicals, scents, 'flavors' and preservatives!!? Just take few drops of hydrogen peroxide and dilute with water (50-50) and brush it mildly in your dog's mouth once in a while. That is it. No more.

This is it! You will not only save thousands in vet bills but most of all, your dog will be healthy with clean teeth, healthy liver/kidney function, healthy heart and blood when toxins from the mouth and the food will not be circulating in the body.

Do note that this is exactly what you pay your vet to do...with anesthesia. What do you think your money is buying? Your vet is fooling you and the vets along with the pharmaceutical companies are getting rich - but your pooch is the one picking the ultimate price tab. When your dog is inside the room, this is how your vet scrapes the tartar off!! Once you start doing it, you will be SHOCKED at why you ever put your dog through it and why no one ever told you - there is NO need for anesthesia and it is all so-easy!

Another thing - while scraping, you might have some blood pop out. This is normal - this also happens when vets do it so why blame yourself so hard? As you get better, hardly any issue will prevail. But to think that vets can do it better and no blood oozes out of the gums is a naïve conclusion. Keep doing the scraping, slowly and you will have firm hand. Keep a small piece of soft tissue and keep wiping the tartar/plaque (and if any blood) off as you progress. 

Most of the dogs enjoy it and will cooperate. I can firmly say this because all my dogs are from the shelters/rescues and all have cooperated very easily. Heck! after I finish, my dogs are back to playing or eating! No kidding! 

So, here is your assignment - get the tool and start bonding with your dog, because that is what this is. A bonding experience that serves both of you - your wallet and your dog's health and happiness! so you both can live together for a very long time!

#1 Pic - In the pic below, I recommend #2 (from left) kind of shape as I feel it also prevents the gums from getting any hurt and I use that one so it works great!.

#2 - #3 Pic - The other two pics are of one of my dogs who I rescued - you can see the before and after pic. This is 100% me cleaning the dog's teeth and you can see the difference. It took me total of 20 to 30 minutes for the whole mouth.

ALL the teeth were dark brown - from front to back ones and by just scrapping them, my dog now has clean mouth! I do this not even weekly but rather every few months! And the reason I can "take time off" is because my dogs eat 100% home cooked meals (soft foods) along with both raw and cooked veggies. Hope this helps you!
