Moringa Benefits for Dogs
Moringa is very beneficial for dogs and is highly revered in Ayurveda. Find out how to use moringa for your dog and its Ayurvedic properties.
As you probably know by now, I believe in one and only one type of health for dogs - holistic health which only offers us the side benefits, not the side effects!

Once I know something is good for my dogs and will only give them benefits and.... more benefits.... and... more side-benefits, I have to buy it for them.

Generally, all my dogs are pretty good at taking their superfoods or whatever health items I want them to take except the only one that gives me any attitude is my littlest one - the tiniest and the youngest of the pack..:)

She is soooo cute and I can't stop kissing her - maybe that's why she knows she can give me an attitude and get away with a lot of things..:) LOL. 🐶

Anyways, one of the things that I have given to my dogs throughout the years is the organic moringa powder and that's what we're going to talk about today. I have to say that I have not been consistent with it - it is one of those superfoods that sits at the front of the counter sometimes and I remember to give it and then when we moved here, it got hidden somewhere and so I skipped it for the longest time but now it is back!..:)

Sorry, moringa! Me and the dogs still love and value you..:) 😍

So, I have been mixing the moringa powder with some pumpkin puree and giving it to each of my dogs now. The benefits of moringa are so many that I highly advise that you also get organic moringa powder for your dog and start him or her on it right away. In India, we are so blessed because we have Moringa trees everywhere.

In fact, right next to one of my aunt and uncle's home is a beautiful large moringa tree - imagine that! They can just go anytime and pick up some moringa leaves and drumsticks and use them in their recipes and my aunt who is a great cook often does that.:)

So here are the benefits of moringa for your dog but first, let's discuss what are the Ayurvedic properties of moringa.

Ayurvedic Properties of Moringa (Moringa oleifera) -

Names - 'Shigru' meaning 'moves like an arrow' due to its ability to deeply penetrate the cells and the tissues and the bone marrow for deep cleansing and nourishment.

Also called as the 'miracle tree' and 'the drumstick tree' due to its delicious and highly nutritious drumsticks that are often cooked in recipes like Indian sambar.

Benefits of Moringa for Dogs -

- moringa is excellent for your dog's skin and coat. How many dog owners complain about poor skin and coat health for their dogs? and what if you could improve it by simply adding one superfood powder and adding moringa will help you with just that.

- moringa will seriously boost your dog's immunity. If your dog often falls sick or has allergies or constant itching and skin issues or feels lethargic and doesn't feel like him or her old self, then adding moringa daily to your dog's diet will help him greatly.

- moringa is rich in vitamins and minerals, it also has all the essential amino acids and it's super rich in antioxidants that can protect your dog's body against free radicals. Moringa contains over 92 nutrients (yep! that's correct), is rich in protein and fiber and Omega 3, 6 and 9 which are essential for healthy skin and coat and joints in dogs.

- what is even more impressive is that moringa is rich in protein, fiber, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc and potassium along with all the vitamins from vitamin A to K - now that's pretty impressive! Don't you think so?!

- because of all these nutrients, moringa can assist your dog in joint health, good bone density, preventing diseases and pains like arthritis and in having healthy teeth and gums.

- moreover, moringa is also excellent for dog's digestion due to its rich fiber content and it having all the amino acids, it is easily available to your dog's body upon consumption and it also helps in relieving constipation in dogs.

- many dogs, due to the modern diet and lifestyle, lack energy especially senior or working dogs or dogs that are getting poor nutrition or are not able to absorb the nutrition from the food and this is where moringa can help greatly. It can boost stamina and help boost digestion and provide energy for sick or senior or working dogs.

- moringa is also excellent for dogs that have just given birth as it can help with lactation for new doggy moms. For this, it is great to consult a holistic vet before giving moringa to new doggy moms.

-moringa is an excellent adaptogen - it can adapt to the body's needs which in turn helps the body rest and relax during times of stress or sleep while also helping your dog stay balanced and energized during the day.

- last but not least, moringa is excellent for eyesight as well as blood circulation.

So with all of these benefits, why wait?! Start your dog on moringa right away.

How to Give Moringa to Your Dog -

I just buy the organic moringa powder and add it to pumpkin puree and give like I shared above or you can just add directly to your dog's food if he or she is not fussy and will take it right away.

Note -

I don't recommend giving moringa powder continuously and this is because it can increase the white blood cells a little too much and though this is one of the reasons why moringa is so miraculous for health as by increasing the white blood cells it boosts immunity, but you still want to give in moderation to your dog.

But not to worry - there's a simple fix to this.

-If you have a sick or senior or working dog that needs lots of support, then by all means give moringa continuously for 3-4 months until the dog improves completely and then stop and continue on a maintenance dose of two-three times only per week. (twice a day is best)

-If your dog is otherwise healthy but you would like to add moringa for cancer prevention and other benefits listed above, then you may add it up to four to five times a week and a small dose each time (once a day is enough).

Dosages -

Dosages that I recommend are as below - once a day is great but twice a day is better for dogs who really need the help.

For small dogs - 1/3 teaspoon once a day or twice a day depending on the condition.

For medium dogs - half teaspoon once a day or twice a day depending on the condition.

For large dogs - 1 teaspoon once a day (for sick or aging or working dogs or those that have cancer or arthritis or joint pains or allergies, you will give one teaspoon twice a day until all symptoms subside).

So this is it for today. I hope this has helped you and given you another excellent, easy to do, affordable tip to prevent a lot of health issues in your dog.

Here's to the power of Moringa for you and your pup! 🐾
