Beet Root Powder Benefits For Dogs
Beets or beet root powder has many benefits for dogs. Find out top 7 reasons why you should definitely add beet root powder to your dog's diet.
In my home, when it comes to the health of my dogs, it is given the #1 priority - whatever is needed and could benefit the dogs is immediately bought right away.

When one of my most beloved dog was there, my mind was continuously focused on HER - I was giving her all the best of the best nutrition, cooking for her (and rest of the pack) and making sure she gets bunch of varied vitamins and minerals through her diet, especially organic veggies and then I was also giving her medicinal herbs. She also took black seed oil twice daily - for her, I never skipped it and then of course, some high quality supplements.

On top of that, I would make sure that she had proper rest and what-not. One of the vegetables I started making often because of her especially were organic beets - to enrich her blood and help her energy - till her last day, it is a miracle for sure that she had NO lack of energy, no aches and pains , no lethargy, no allergies, no puking or sneezing or cough - nothing at all, though all too common in dogs in the Western world.

Her only problem was blood not routing properly and slowly, slowly causing blood loss and ultimately, cardiac arrest unfortunately..:(

Oh well, all this to say then I thought about how to give the benefits of beets to my other dogs AFTER her passing - after her loss, I had a serious lack of motivation when trying to cook for my dogs. Let's just say that many organic veggies sat in the fridge for quite some time and then ultimately they would go to the compost - this was never the case when she was there...like never.

I have said many times in previous newsletters too that out of all my dogs, my bond with her was the strongest and in short, most obsessive - she obsessed with me and me obsessed with her. Our personalities matched 100% and I was hooked on her; she was 'my dog' in short and I was her 'human'. Period.

So, just a little recap here for those who missed it - so then, I ordered organic beet root powder to add to my dogs' diet - now all of them take it about 3 times a week; they will not take it unless I add it with some fresh cooked veggies like broccoli which they all had today or sweet potatoes and so on..you get the point.

I lost the motivation to cut and make fresh beets after her death and I needed some time - so organic beet root powder would do till then.

Why is beet root powder so important for dogs? Why do I highly recommend and suggest you add to your dog's diet too? Let's find out in this detailed article.

Benefits of Beet Root Powder for Dogs -

1. Beets for Heart Health in Dogs - Beets or beet root powder is excellent for heart health because it boosts circulation due to nitric oxide.

This is super important for all dogs but even more so, for dogs who have heart conditions since the health of the heart depends greatly on how good the blood circulation is in the body.

Nitric oxide is also crucial for healthy blood pressure and therefore, beet root powder can also help dogs who have high blood pressure.

2. Beets for Increasing Iron in Blood - Beets or beet root powder is excellent for dogs with heart issues, senior dogs, working dogs, puppies and adults - in dogs, as noted above, heart issues are very common and beet root powder increases not just the circulation but also the iron in the blood, creating healthier and richer red blood cells.

By boosting iron in the blood, beets or beet root powder can help combat fatigue and anemia in dogs and this can be very beneficial for dogs who are required to be very active like in the case of working dogs but also dogs who are aging and need an extra boost of iron for energy.

3. Beets or Beet Root Powder for Liver Cleansing in Dogs - Liver issues are very common in dogs when it comes to health issues so beets or beet root powder are a great addition since they are superb food for liver cleansing and overall health.

By adding beet root powder daily in your dog's diet, you can help support your dog's liver health as beets are one of the most powerful foods for liver cleansing.

4. Beets or Beet Root Powder for Boosting Energy in Dogs - Beets or beet root powder can help boost energy levels in dogs. When dogs have good blood circulation plus the antioxidants and nitric oxide benefits due to beet root powder in their diet,  your dog will benefit with better energy and good metabolism

6. Beets or Beet Root Powder for Boosting Immunity in Dogs - Beets or beet root powder is packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals as well as fiber to aid in digestion and boost gut health.

With better gut health, your dog's immunity also goes up as beets or beet root powder are also rich in vitamin C and therefore excellent for your dog's immunity too.

7. Beets or Beet Root Powder for Dogs with Diabetes - Beets or beet root powder are both excellent even for dogs who have diabetes - beets or beet root powder don't raise blood sugar and can help prevent eye vision as well as good nerve health in diabetic dogs.

Beet Root Powder Dosage for Dogs -

Just add a little bit like 1 teaspoon for large dogs, 1/2 teaspoon for medium dogs and 1/4 teaspoon for small dogs.

You definitely want to divide the day's worth in between two meals so one dosage in the morning meal and then again another dosage in the evening meal - this will prevent any tummy upsets for your dog especially until your dog's digestion gets used to the fiber in the beet root powder.

Make sure you check to see if your dog is having good poop - if too much or too runny poop, then lower it slightly until your dog's tummy adjusts and then you can increase the dose as beet root powder is full of antioxidants goodness for your dog!

Of course, you can split the 'dose' in more than two meals if you like but either way, add this wonderful super food to your dog's diet right away and see the benefits yourself.

Best Way to Give Beets to Your Dog -

I have been rescuing dogs for 20 yrs now and since this is where I lead others with my advice and guidance, I can definitely say that the best way to feed beets to your dog is by cooking them well.

You can boil them or sauté them in a few spoons of water along with coconut oil - either way you choose, make sure the beets are super soft and easy to digest by your dog's tummy.

Another thing I highly advise dog owners is to never ever throw away that antioxidant rich water in which you boiled the beets - use it to cook your dog's brown rice or simply give it to your dog later to drink it but never waste it. My dogs love to drink that rich red or purple antioxidant rich water and so I always serve it to them - just a little bit for each one in their bowls or if not, you can also drink it or use it to cook soups, rice, etc.

If you are wanting to use raw beets to feed your dog, then puree them so they are easy to get absorbed in your dog's digestive tract and your dog's body can immediately tap into the benefits of beets.

When NOT to Give Your Dog Beets or Beet Root Powder -

-Do not give your dog beets or beet root powder if he or she is allergic to them or shows any allergic reaction to them.

-Whether giving beets or beet root powder to your dog, give in small quantities at a time - just like you would add any other veggie to your dog's diet.

-Dogs with kidney stones or crystals should be fed beets or beet root powder in either very small quantities or after consulting with a holistic vet since beets have oxalates that can be a problem for dogs with kidney stones or crystals.
