Alfalfa Powder Benefits for Dogs

My little puppy, now 5 months old, is doing so great! She is definitely one of the best puppies I have ever come across - she is so calm and even during July 4th fireworks, she had NO problem, like none at all! She stayed calm and centered and no, I didn't give her CBD oil or any herb or anything! Even when she plays with the pack or with her toys, she plays quietly!

Our bond is so strong - both of us are attached at the hip with each other; after she finishes playing with the other dogs and her toys, she will come to me and ask to be picked up and then she will sit in my lap or sleep right next to it while I am working on the laptop.

As far as nutrition, I have started her on quite a lot already - she is eating veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, etc. and for healthy fats, I give her organic hemp oil, coconut oil and EVOO - just like rest of my dogs get.

She also gets organic kelp as well as beet root powder and of course, many more other goodies like organic apple cider vinegar, organic aloe vera juice and so on - just a few drops of each in her meals is enough since she is so tiny.

The benefits of alfalfa powder are many for dogs and what's more is that alfalfa is easy to add to their diet, is easy to find and extremely affordable despite being one of the best supplements!

-alfalfa is rich in antioxidants, amino acids, chlorophyll, minerals like calcium, iron, potassium,  magnesium, zinc, vitamins (especially vitamins A, B, C, E and K) and fatty acids as well as polyphenols. Alfalfa also provides fiber and protein.

Dosage -

Alfalfa powder is very safe and I actually give slightly more to my adult dogs than what I am writing here - I give twice daily but this is a good guideline to start with.

Small puppies or dogs <20 lbs. - About 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon


Medium dogs - 1/2 teaspoon to slightly more if needed


Large dogs - 1 teaspoon to start with.


When Buying Alfalfa Powder for Your Dog -

When you are ready to buy alfalfa powder for your dog, make sure to buy one that is organic and comes in a BAG (and not a plastic container!).

When NOT to Give Alfalfa to Your Dog -

Do not give alfalfa to your dog if your dog is taking any blood thinning medicines as alfalfa contains vitamin K which is for blood clotting and alfalfa might make the blood thinning medicines less effective in your dog's body - consult your holistic veterinarian before use.
